Kim Kardashian shares the joy of how she called Alice Johnson in prison to tell her she would be freed:

When Kim Kardashian West learned that Alice Marie Johnson — a nonviolent drug offender serving a life sentence — would be freed, she broke the news to her in a tearful phone call.

“I was like ‘you’re going home,’ ” Kardashian said Thursday, recalling the conversation with Johnson.
Johnson, 63, who had spent a third of her life in prison, screamed.

“We cried, maybe, on the phone for like three minutes straight,” an emotional Kardashian told CNN’s Van Jones, recounting her advocacy for Johnson, and her role in President Donald Trump’s decision to grant Johnson clemency on Wednesday. “Everyone was just crying,”

Man punched by Mesa police says he wants justice:

The man who was struck by Arizona police and forcefully taken to the ground by several officers said Thursday he wants them to “be held accountable for what they have done.”

Five police officers in Mesa have been put on administrative leave after surveillance video surfaced that shows Robert Johnson, 33, being punched in the head and kneed by officers during the May 23 incident at an apartment complex.
Johnson told reporters that he doesn’t want anything similar to happen to other people. He said he was a God-fearing family man.
“I just want things to be … I want Mesa to be held accountable for what they have done,” said Johnson, who was emotional and struggled to find his words.

How we talk about Kate Spade could help others survive:

I was sitting at my desk when a push notification came on my phone about Kate Spade’s suicide, and I felt a rush of vertigo, as if the room had tipped sideways. I had to clutch the arms of my desk chair to steady myself, had to take a few deep breaths.

My mother took her own life in 2009, and whenever I hear news of a suicide, it both reopens that grief and sends my heart hurtling toward the freshly grieving family, the family reeling from shock and pain.
There are more of us suicide loss survivors than some might think.

Trump to skip climate portion of G7 after Twitter spat with Macron and Trudeau:

President Donald Trump plans to depart from this weekend’s Group of 7 summit in Canada several hours early, the White House announced Thursday, punctuating an explosion of acrimony between Trump and his foreign counterparts on the eve of the talks.

The White House said Trump would depart mid-morning on Saturday, skipping sessions on climate change and the environment. An aide will take his place, the White House said.
The announcement came as Trump engaged in a bitter back-and-forth with French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over Twitter, both of whom he’ll meet face-to-face on Friday.
Trump is expecting a knock-down, drag-out fight with top US allies over trade during his time at the conference, held in remote Quebec. It’s a battle he believes he can win, but which he’s unenthusiastic about waging in person, people familiar with his thinking say.

There Are No Losers in the Capitals’ Stanley Cup Victory over the Golden Knights:

For so many years, the Washington Capitals seemed to hold the winning hand. So many years, they had dominant teams, Presidents’ Trophy teams, teams holding a 20 at the blackjack table, only to see the house win at the last second.

It all changed in Las Vegas on Thursday night against the franchise playing with the ultimate house money. The Capitals—the Capitals—who still hold the dubious distinction of having one of the worst squads in pro sports history, in their expansion season, are the Stanley Cup champions after defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in Game 5. The Caps beat an expansion team in the Cup Final in its inaugural season.
