Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Yolanda Adams was the oldest of six children. Her mother studied music and raised Yolanda in a strict Christian home where Gospel music had a strong presence. As an adult Yolanda became a school teacher and lead singer with the Southeast Inspirational Choir. After years of singing in the church she caught the attention composer Thomas Whitfield. He helped her release her first album in 1987 and that release led to a booming career that would forever impact the music industry beyond Gospel.
Adams has went on to win 4 Grammys, 4 Doves, 1 American Music Award, 6 NAACP Image Awards, 1 Soul Train Music Award and 3 BET Awards and release 13 albums. Plus she spent nearly 10 years hosting with Radio-One on her syndicated morning show, “The Yolanda Adams Morning Show.”
Yolanda continues to perform and her beautiful voice has taken her from the White House to perform for the Obama’s as well as multi music Award show tributes. Recently she gave an amazing performance to honor Anita Baker at the BET Awards 2018.
Her top songs include Be Blessed, Open My Heart and Victory.
