How LeBron James and Melania Trump laid bare the contradictions in the Trump White House:

Melania Trump’s split with her husband over NBA superstar LeBron James is the most glaring example of a growing trend: The President’s family and some top officials are adopting positions at odds with his most divisive statements.

The public feud between King James and the imperious President is on one level a personal and even ideological clash between two of the richest, most famous entertainers in American life whose outsize images outshine the confines of the roles they currently play.

But it is also offering new insight into the President’s unashamed willingness to launch attacks that touch on the most sensitive fault lines of American life, like race and freedom of expression, that even some of those closest to him find difficult to publicly defend.

Michael Jordan pushes back after Trump attacks LeBron James, Don Lemon:

It all started on a quiet Friday night, when CNN re-aired Don Lemon’s interview with LeBron James.

The interview focused on James’ contributions to his hometown of Akron, Ohio, including a new public school for at-risk third- and fourth-graders there. But the two men also discussed politics. James told Lemon that President Donald Trump has used athletics and athletes to divide the country.
“I can’t sit back and say nothing,” James said.
The President was watching. Shortly before midnight, he tweeted: “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”
“I like Mike!” the President added in what appeared to be a reference to the ongoing debate on who’s the greatest NBA player of all time, James or Jordan.

Demi Lovato speaks out for first time since apparent overdose:

Pop star Demi Lovato addressed fans for the first time since her apparent drug overdose last month.

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” the 25-year-old singer wrote on her Instagram account Sunday. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”

Lovato was rushed to the hospital on July 24, a source close to her family told CNN at the time. She was later reported to be stable and conscious.
It hasn’t been publicly disclosed which drug or drugs may have been involved.

California fire explodes in size over weekend, is now 4th largest in state history:

Catastrophic wildfires continue to ravage California, as one blaze nearly doubled in size over the weekend to make it the fourth largest in the state’s history.

No one has been injured in the Mendocino Complex Fire, which consists of two fires — the Ranch Fire and the River Fire — burning around Clear Lake, in Northern California.
Combined, they form the biggest blaze that California firefighters are currently battling. Altogether, the Mendocino Complex Fire has burned 266,982 acres — growing about 70% over the weekend. As of Sunday night, it was 33% contained.
Exhausted firefighters across the state are trying to contain 17 major fires that are burning in hot, dry and windy conditions.
