Trump comes out swinging ahead of big political week:

President Donald Trump couldn’t wait to launch into the fall political season, an intense 10-week conflagration that marks a hugely consequential chapter in his turbulent presidency.

He spent Labor Day, when campaign politicking goes into overdrive, unleashing a raging tweet storm blasting his beleaguered Attorney General Jeff Sessions and other favorite targets, such as fired FBI Director James Comey, officials leading the Russian probe and the media.

But the critical period that might lay the foundations for the nation’s ideological course for years and even decades to come will truly get underway on Tuesday morning when confirmation hearings start for Trump’s second Supreme Court pick, Brett Kavanaugh.

Actors and fans defend ‘Cosby Show’ actor after articles job-shame him for working at Trader Joe’s:

An honest man doing an honest day’s work used to be something to be celebrated in America. But it didn’t seem like it — over the Labor Day weekend, of all times — after actor Geoffrey Owens was spotted at a Trader Joe’s in New Jersey, bagging groceries.

It all started with an article in the Daily Mail late last week. A customer at the store in Clifton, New Jersey, spotted Owens — best known for his role as son-in-law Elvin Tibideaux on “The Cosby Show” — working as a cashier and snapped a picture.
The image became the basis for the Daily Mail’s story under the job-shaming headline, “From learning lines to serving the long line!”
The details in the story were just as insulting: “Wearing an ID badge bearing his name, the former star wore a Trader Joe’s T-shirt with stain marks on the front as he weighed a bag of potatoes

Gordon could be a Category 1 hurricane before it makes landfall as early as Tuesday night. About 2 million people are under a hurricane watch or warning.
Gordon is expected to produce rain accumulations of 4 to 6 inches over southern Alabama, southern and central Mississippi, and southeastern and northeastern Louisiana, with isolated maximum amounts of 8 inches through late Thursday, according to the hurricane center

Nike takes sides, tapping Colin Kaepernick for new ‘Just Do It’ ad:

Companies and brands often attempt to avoid taking strong public positions out of fear of alienating customers, but Nike is running straight into the political fray.

Four days before a new NFL season gets underway, Nike is throwing its weight behind one of the most polarizing figures in football, and America: former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick  Kaepernick will be one of the faces of Nike’s 30th anniversary commemoration of its iconic “Just Do It” slogan. The campaign will also feature athletes such as Serena Williams, NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and Shaquem Griffin, a rookie linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks whose left hand was amputated when he was a child.

Roseanne Barr says she’s moving to Israel when ‘The Conners’ premieres:

Roseanne Barr says she plans to be abroad when “The Conners” premieres without her this fall.

Barr told her longtime friend, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, during the latest installment of his podcast, that she won’t be tuning into the “Roseanne” spinoff. Instead, she’ll be halfway around the world.
“I have an opportunity to go to Israel for a few months and study with my favorite teachers over there,” Barr said. “And that’s where I’m going to go and probably move somewhere there and study with my favorite teachers. I have saved a few pennies and I’m so lucky I can go. It’s my great joy and privilege to be a Jewish woman.”
Barr was fired by ABC after she went on a Twitter tirade in which she made racist comments about Valerie Jarrett, a former aide to President Barack Obama. Barr also made offensive comments about Chelsea Clinton and George Soros
