Homeless veteran will get the $400,000 owed to him from GoFundMe campaign:

Johnny Bobbitt Jr., a homeless Philadelphia ex-Marine, will get the money owed to him from a GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $400,000 for him, his attorney Chris Fallon tells CNN.

“We reached an agreement today with GoFundMe and they have agreed to make sure he will be made whole,” Fallon says.
In a statement, the company said it would back the money raised:

“…Our platform is backed by the GoFundMe Guarantee, which means that in the rare case that GoFundMe, law enforcement or a user finds campaigns are misused, donors and beneficiaries are protected.”
Bobbitt has now received $20,000 as part of the guarantee, which will be used to get him an apartment and food, Fallon says.

Brett Kavanaugh and the Democrats got what they came for:

One of the most vindictive and ill-tempered congressional hearings in memory appeared to do little to shake up the political realities that will likely see President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court-reshaping nominee confirmed before the midterm elections.

For much of the time, the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing this week added up to exactly the kind of petty, small, negative politics that mourners at Sen. John McCain’s funeral on Saturday used their eulogies to decry.
But there was a method to the madness unfolding in the Hart Senate Office Building.
For Kavanaugh, the hours of dodging snares laid by Democratic senators boiled down to avoiding huge errors — especially on the core issue of abortion that would risk the defection of a couple of Republican senators and jeopardize his route to the high court.

He was 82.

An iconic Hollywood sex symbol in front of the camera, Reynolds also tried his directorial hand behind it, and later earned a reputation for philanthropy after founding the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre in his home state of Florida.

Trump tells supporters it’ll be ‘your fault’ if he gets impeached:

President Donald Trump told supporters Thursday that if he is impeached “it’s your fault ’cause you didn’t go out to vote.”

“You didn’t go out to vote — that’s the only way it could happen,” Trump said during a rally in Billings, Montana.
“I’ll be the only President in history they’ll say: ‘What a job he’s done! By the way, we’re impeaching him,’ ” Trump said.
“This election, you aren’t just voting for a candidate, you are voting for which party controls Congress,” the President said. “Very important thing. Very important thing

Academy nixes addition of ‘popular film’ category to Oscars — for now:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is rethinking the addition of a popular film category to the Oscars after the idea proved to be largely unpopular.

“There has been a wide range of reactions to the introduction of a new award, and we recognize the need for further discussion with our members,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson in a statement Thursday. “We have made changes to the Oscars over the years — including this year — and we will continue to evolve while also respecting the incredible legacy of the last 90 years.”
The Academy announcedĀ in AugustĀ that it intended to add a category for achievement in popular film, in hopes it would open the door to movies that might otherwise be overlooked in the best picture category
