Abrams campaign: We don’t accept Kemp declaring himself the winner in Georgia governor race:

Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams is refusing to accept Republican rival Brian Kemp’s declaration of victory in the Georgia gubernatorial race and is considering legal action in the high-profile contest.

“Our opponent has had his office declare himself the victor and we do not accept that,” the Abrams campaign said in a phone call with reporters Wednesday evening.
CNN has not projected a winner in the race. Kemp, Georgia’s secretary of state, is currently ahead of Abrams by nearly 63,000 votes with 99% of precincts reporting, according to CNN election results. He has 50.3% of the vote, Abrams has 48.7% and Libertarian candidate Ted Metz has 0.9%. If no candidate receives 50%, there will be a runoff in early December.

Girl Scouts sue Boy Scouts over name change:

A long-running dispute between scouts has now ended up in a Manhattan court.

The Girl Scouts of the USA has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America after it announced that it would drop “boy” from the name of a program in 2019. The boys’ group has already begun to welcome older girls.
The Girl Scouts said in the complaint filed in Manhattan federal court Tuesday that the Boy Scouts do not have the right to use “scouts” or “scouting.”
It also alleged that the Girl Scouts brand and activities will be marginalized by the Boy Scouts rebranded program, Scouts BSA.

Pelosi confident about becoming speaker, as others seek leadership posts:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was confident Wednesday she would be elected speaker, one day after Democrats won back the House majority since losing it eight years ago.

Pelosi, the heavy favorite for the speakership despite dissension within the caucus, also pushed back on President Donald Trump’s tweet saying that Pelosi deserved to be speaker.
“I don’t think anybody deserves anything,” she said at a news conference. “What you have done in the past speaks to your credentials, but it’s about what you can do, and I think I’m the best person to go forward to unify, to negotiate.”
Pelosi pointed to past deals she’s negotiated in Congress, saying “the only one we didn’t win wasn’t a negotiation — it was the GOP tax scam

‘The Grinch’ strains to haul feature-length loot:

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” remains arguably the best of TV’s animated Christmas specials. Yet the Chuck Jones/Dr. Seuss holiday classic is a model of storytelling economy, whereas the new version, “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch,” captures sparks of that magic while straining to treble its size — like the Grinch’s small heart, only here for theatrical purposes.

In that regard, this “Grinch,” which features Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the title character, has a good deal in common with “The Lorax,” another Illumination Entertainment adaptation of a Seuss staple, which felt similarly labored in fleshing out its story.
