Marine Corps planes crash off coast of Japan:

Two US Marine aircraft crashed off the coast of Japan, the US Marine Corps announced Wednesday in a statement.

It is believed five individuals were on board a KC-130 and two individuals were in a F/A-18, two US defense officials told CNN. At least one Marine had been rescued just before 6 p.m. ET, according to a Marine Corps spokesman.
“Search and rescue operations continue for US Marine Corps aircraft that were involved in a mishap off of the coast of Japan around 2:00 am Dec. 6,” local time, a statement by the US Marine Corps reads.
The planes “had launched from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and were conducting regularly scheduled training when the mishap occurred,” according to the statement.

Michelle Obama and George W. Bush share a warm moment (and maybe a candy):

In times of sorrow, we lean on those close to us. And if we’re lucky, those people can make us smile.

Former President George W. Bush and former first lady Michelle Obama have reminded us of that fact twice this year.
At the state funeral of his father, former President George H.W. Bush, the junior Bush greeted the dignitaries in the front row, including the Clintons and the Trumps. Also in the front row were Michelle Obama and her husband, former President Barack Obama.

Trump fears political price from oil spike, market turmoil:

President Donald Trump is fretting about two rising global challenges that threaten a political gut punch as he gears up for his 2020 election bid — a possible oil price hike and market shocks triggered by his trade wars.

Both crises will test Trump’s capacity to work his will on the world stage as well as the strategic viability of his “America First” foreign policy. A tariff battle with China is highlighting a growing great power rivalry. And Russia’s role as a top energy producer with a vested interest in setting global oil prices could open new fronts in a widening confrontation between Washington and Moscow.

Cardi B shares first photo of her daughter, Kulture Kiari:

Not even 24 hours after announcing her split from husband and fellow rapper Offset, Cardi B shared the first photo of their baby girl, Kulture Kiari.

In the photo posted to Cardi B’s Instagram account, four-month-old Kulture sits in her car seat wearing a pink headband with a white bow and a striped bib with her name on it. Cardi B, whose birth name is Belcalis Almánzar, simply captioned the photo “My Heart.”

Max Bobholz, 18, started Angels at Bat, a nonprofit that collects and delivers baseball equipment for children in Kenya. A light bulb went off as he watched a Ugandan team play in the 2012 Little League World Series: "[T]hey had stories of where the teams came from. And not everybody had enough balls to play and no uniforms, no hats, no shoes," Max says. "I know I had that in my garage. I knew all my friends had it in their garage. And I thought why don't we gather that together and send it to the kids in Africa so they can play."

Five young people creating a better world:

It’s easy to ignore the homeless encampment near your neighborhood, the pollution clogging the local beach or the faraway children who don’t have resources to play a sport they love.

Solving those problems might seem insurmountable, but not to one group of teens and tweens who saw an issue and tackled it with passion and energy.
In advance of the 12th annual “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute,” CNN will showcase five extraordinary young people making a difference in their communities and far beyond.
Hosted by Anderson Cooper, “Young Wonders: A CNN Heroes Special” airs Friday, December 7, at 11 p.m ET. These five youths will also be honored during “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” airing live Sunday, December 9, at 8 p.m. ET.
