Bill Cosby says he won’t feel remorse because he’s a ‘political prisoner’:

In his first public statement from prison, Bill Cosby said he will never have remorse for his crimes and called himself a political prisoner.

“My political beliefs, my actions of trying to humanize all races, genders and religions landed me in this place surrounded by barb wire fencing, a room made of steel and iron,” the comedian said in a statement released through his press spokesman, Andrew Wyatt.

Cosby, 81, also noted that his cell at SCI Phoenix, the prison outside Philadelphia where he is serving his sentence, “resembles the quarters of some of the Greatest Political Prisoners — Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Randal Robinson, and Dr. Benjamin Chavis.”

Washington waits to see if Trump will sign:

On the eve of a deadline to avoid a second partial government shutdown, no one — not congressional leaders, President Donald Trump’s allies on Capitol Hill nor his own staff — is ready to say that he is willing to sign a compromise immigration bill.

But his labored efforts to spin a win out of a nearly two-month confrontation with Democrats — that brought his border wall no closer — leave little doubt about the victors from the first big showdown in the new era of divided government.

Spike Lee strives to be on the right side of history:

Spike Lee’s late grandmother, Zimmie Reatha Shelton, was an art teacher for 50 years in the state of Georgia.

Because of Jim Crow laws, Shelton never taught any white students and it’s something that Lee laments to this day because “white students missed out on a great art teacher.”
Lee, himself a tenured professor and artistic director of the NYU’s graduate film program, credits his grandmother for his own education — her social security checks paid Lee’s way through Morehouse College and film school — and inspiring his passion for it.
