The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center officially opened the Fisher House Tuesday afternoon.
The Greater Cleveland Fisher House took nearly a decade to become a reality and much of the funds that were used to build it came directly from the community and grass roots funding efforts.
There are two houses side by side that each have 16 suites for families of Veterans to stay in while the Veteran gets treated at the VA Medical Center two blocks away. Families have private rooms and bathrooms and share kitchen, dining and living room space along with laundry, library and toys for kids
The homes are located on E. 105th and already, new buildings are going up with future retail space showing an economic boost to the area.
The VA will help coordinate families to stay there. Any family that must travel more than 50 miles is eligible for free lodging at Fisher House.
