Trump invites right-wing extremists to White House ‘social media summit’:

Some of the right-wing media universe’s biggest stars are set to descend on the White House Thursday for what has been billed as a “social media summit” and will likely become a forum for airing claims of anti-conservative social media bias.

In addition to inviting leaders from traditional conservative think tanks, such as the Heritage Foundation and Claremont Institute, the White House has requested the presence of far-right internet personalities and trolls, some of whom have pushed conspiracy theories, lies and misinformation.
It’s perhaps the clearest example yet of President Trump legitimizing fringe political allies

Hurricane watches issued for parts of coastal Louisiana ahead of storm:

The National Hurricane Center issued hurricane watches for parts of coastal Louisiana on Wednesday, as the first tropical system to slam the US this year is expected to make landfall as a hurricane.

The watches extend from the mouth of the Mississippi River west to Cameron, Louisiana. They do not include the New Orleans metro area, which was inundated with rain for several hours.
The National Hurricane Center predicts Tropical Storm Barry will form in the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday and strengthen to a hurricane by Saturday, when it’s expected to make landfall along the Louisiana or upper Texas coast. At least one Louisiana parish issued a mandatory evacuation ahead of the storm.

A small glass of juice or soda a day is linked to increased risk of cancer, study finds:

There’s more bad news for fans of sugary drinks such as soda and fruit juice.

A new study has linked drinking just a small glass of a sugary drink per day — 100 ml, about a third of a typical can of soda — to an 18% increase in overall cancer risk and a 22% increase in risk for breast cancer.
The research, which looked at more than 100,000 French adults, links consumption of sugary drinks to an increased risk of some cancers. This follows a recent study linking sugary beverage consumption to greater risk of premature death.

AT&T becomes first major wireless company to automatically block spam calls:

AT&T customers could soon be free of having to deal with annoying spam calls — or at least that’s AT&T’s plan.

On Tuesday, AT&T (T) became the first major US wireless company to automatically block robocalls for its customers. The free service comes after a June Federal Communications Commission ruling that allows phone service providers to offer call-blocking on an opt-out basis. AT&T owns WarnerMedia, the parent company of CN

A California officer fatally shot a 17-year-old girl. Days later, the teen’s family still doesn’t know why:

Hannah Williams’ father still has no idea why a police officer shot and killed his 17-year-old daughter.

It’s been several days since the California teen encountered a Fullerton police officer while driving in the nearby city of Anaheim.
At some point, Hannah’s car and the officer’s police SUV “made physical contact,” the Orange County District Attorney’s office said.
“An officer-involved shooting occurred and a replica Beretta 92 FS handgun was recovered at the scene next to” the teen, the DA’s office said. “The gun was later identified as a replica handgun designed to look like a real Beretta 92 FS.”
