It was his stirring duet with Karen Clark-Sheard, “Wait On the Lord” that Donnie McClurkin cinched his fourth GRAMMY nomination earlier this month for Best Gospel Performance. But McClurkin doesn’t mind saying that the nomination – for his current CD, We Are All One (Live In Detroit) – is of little consequence if it doesn’t bring a win, even if he says it somewhat in jest.

   

“I love the nominations, but it’s the win that matters, because the worst thing you could put on some advertisement is ‘GRAMMY-nominated star.’ That means, ‘loser,'” he laughs.

   

All jokes aside, McClurkin does indeed appreciate the honor.

   

“It does something to you,” he says. “To know that you’re still viable – that somewhere out there someone voted for you and your music means something…Amongst your peers, that’s an awesome honor.”
