Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords continued to fight for her life in a Tucson hospital Monday morning as her alleged would-be assassin prepared for his first day in court.
The alleged shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, 22, is scheduled appear in a Phoenix, Arizona, courtroom at 2 p.m. MT, according to prosecutors.
Loughner is accused of opening fire outside a Tucson supermarket where Giffords was meeting with constituents Saturday. Six people were killed — including a federal judge — and 14 others were wounded in the shooting.
In addition to Giffords, who remains in critical condition, nine other patients remained hospitalized, a spokesman for University Medical Center has said. Three of the patients were in serious condition and six in fair condition.
