District Chief Executive Officer Eugene Sanders has said he will cut other areas as well, so the number could rise.
It was not immediately clear how many classroom teachers would be affected. A recent employee breakdown provided by the district shows 3,866 teachers, but the union also represents teacher’s aides, nurses and other groups.
Sanders and school board Chairwoman Denise Link both declined to comment on Thursday.
