The Rev. Al Sharpton will speak at rally on Thursday evening in support of Kelly Williams-Bolar , the Akron mother who was sent to jail for lying on government forms to get her two girls into the Copley-Fairlawn schools.

A press release identifies Sharpton as the keynote speaker at the event organized by the Akron Chapter of the National Action Network. Organizers are expecting several hundred people to attend.

The rally will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mountain of the Lord Fellowship, at 1477 Copley Rd.

Other guest speaker will include Akron City Council President, Marco Sommerville, Ohio Representative Sandra Williams, State Senator Nina Turner and State Senator Tom Sawyer.

In January, a jury convicted Williams-Bolar of tampering with records.

Judge Patricia Cosgrove sentenced Williams-Bolar to 10 days in jail.  She was released after nine days at the Summit County Jail.

The Copley-Fairlawn School District, which does not have open enrollment, said Williams-Bolar owed the district more than $30,000 in tuition.

The jury could not reach a verdict on a grand theft charge and prosecutors later dismissed that count. Williams-Bolar was not ordered to pay any money back to the district.

The case set off an international whirlwind of media attention.
