The Rev. Al Sharpton spoke at rally on Thursday evening in support of Kelly Williams-Bolar, the Akron mother who was sent to jail for lying on government forms to get her two girls into the Copley-Fairlawn schools.

Williams-Bolar was not among the hundreds who packed the Mountain of the Lord Fellowship church at 1477 Copley Rd.  But Sharpton admitted she was only part of the reason he came to northeast Ohio.

“I’m here about the bigger picture,” Sharpton said.  “The fact of the matter is that every child should have the same protection and the same quality of education.”

Sharpton was the keynote speaker at the event organized by the Akron Chapter of his National Action Network.  He was joined by social commentator and Syracuse University professor Boyce Watkins.
