Former Los Angeles Lakers player AC Green received the 2011 Bobby Jones Award at the All-Star Breakfast in Los Angeles.

The All-Star Breakfast honors NBA personalities who demonstrate character and leadership both on and off the court.  During the All-Star Breakfast, Athletes in Action presented the Jerry Colangelo Award and the Bobby Jones Award – which recognized “all-star” role models for their contributions on the court, in the workplace, in the home and in the community. The award is named after Bobby Jones, who was part of the 1983 NBA Champion Philadelphia 76ers team.

“The awards honor those that exhibit character, leadership and faith in the world of basketball, in the home and in the community. Both these individuals have done that and continue to do so,” said Dave Lower, spokesman for Athletes in Action, which hosts the breakfast.

Through AC Green Youth Foundation, Green works with young people to help build their character and teach them moral principles like sexual abstinence until marriage.

Upon accepting the honor, Green spoke about the importance of making right choices. After becoming a Christian as a teenager, he said he started to make right choices instead of following what the crowd did.

Athletes in Action, the sports ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, is represented in 96 countries around the world and on over 80 college campuses, according to Lower. The group’s mission is to use the platform of sport so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus.
