When officers arrived on scene at 2131 East 46th Street, they discovered that the Lane Metropolitan Church had been struck by lightning.

“Whatever it took, it took a terrible lick to hit it to the damage it did to this outside of it,” said longtime church member Charlie Hairston while surveying the damage caused to the outside of the building.

The hit to the roof line on the Cedar Avenue side of the 110-year-old church sent brick, mortar and sandstone crashing to the sidewalk and street below.

The Lane Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church is a designated historical landmark in Cleveland, built in 1900.
