It was a magical four days for a select group of more than 100 students from across the nation who descended on Walt Disney World last week for the fourth annual Dreamers Academy in collaboration with Steve Harvey and Essence magazine.
The students, age 13 to 19, were chosen from 4,000 applicants by a celebrity panel for their essays and were given an opportunity to take part in workshops in journalism, video game design, culinary arts, leadership and more. There were also special presentations and celebrity appearances.
“This whole time is dedicated to one thing: It’s to explore your dreams,” Harvey told the students during the kickoff Thursday afternoon. “It starts with a dream, and we’re out here to explore that concept.”
To drive home the point, he told attendees that his career started with a dream: “I dreamed at nine years old that I wanted to be on TV.”
