The Cleveland Cavaliers have their point guard. With the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Cavs selected Alabama point guard Collin Sexton.

In 33 games, the 6-foot-3, 190 point guard averaged 19.2 points and 3.6 assists. The Georgia native also averaged 0.8 steals en route to being named the SEC Freshman of the Year.

The Cavs’ public interest in Sexton dates back to January, when several of the team’s staff members and owner Dan Gilbert scouted him in person in a highly anticipated matchup against fellow draft prospect Trae Young. One day after Cleveland’s season-ending loss to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, the Cavs worked Sexton out at the team facility at Cleveland Clinic Courts.

In a tweet, Gilbert referred to Sexton as “a very interesting prospect.”

The Cavs acquired the No. 8 pick from the Boston Celtics (by way of the Brooklyn Nets) as a part of last summer’s Kyrie Irving trade. It is currently the only pick they possess in the 2018 draft.
