How to rebuild a Gothic masterpiece like Notre Dame, by people who have done it before:

As the ashes settle in the embers of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, the laborious restoration process can begin. Rebuilding will take years, possibly more than a decade. Yet, for a Gothic masterpiece that famously took 107 years to construct, and stood for centuries more, this may simply mark the latest evolution of a building that has been reshaped many times in its 850-year history.
Those looking for hope amid tragedy will be heartened by president Emmanuel Macron’s assurance that the French will “rebuild together,” and the fundraising efforts that reached $670 million within 24 hours of the blaze taking hold.

College student on a trip to the Ozarks fell 100 feet to her death while posing for a photo:

A college student studying environmental science fell about 100 feet to her death while hiking on a class trip to the Ozarks, officials said.

Andrea Norton, 20, was among a group of Briar Cliff University students who traveled to Hawksbill Crag in Arkansas’ Ozark National Forest on Sunday morning as part of a class activity, Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said.
Witnesses said she repositioned herself for a photo and then fell, CNN affiliate KYTV reported.
Wheeler said 61 emergency personnel responded to the scene, and that Norton lost her footing before she fell approximately 100 feet.

Barr makes major reversal in ruling some asylum seekers could be held indefinitely:

Attorney General William Barr decided Tuesday that some asylum seekers who have established credible fear and are subject to deportation cannot be released on bond by immigration judges — a major reversal from a prior ruling that could lead to immigrants being held indefinitely.

The decision means the Department of Homeland Security alone will have the discretion to decide whether to release immigrants who crossed the border illegally and later claimed asylum.
The ruling effectively blocks concerted efforts by immigration lawyers and immigrant rights advocates to push for bond hearings for detained asylum-seekers. The advocates argue that there’s no reason for the United States to detain people who are seeking safety and have already cleared hurdles to prove they have a credible case.

Wake up, people: You’re fooling yourself about sleep, study says:

Hey, sleepyheads. What you believe about sleep may be nothing but a pipe dream.

Many of us have notions about sleep that have little basis in fact and may even be harmful to our health, according to researchers at NYU Langone Health’s School of Medicine, who conducted a study published Tuesday in the journal Sleep Health.
“There’s such a link between good sleep and our waking success,” said lead study investigator Rebecca Robbins, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Population Health at NYU Langone Health. “And yet we often find ourselves debunking myths, whether it’s to news outlets, friends, family or a patient.”

Half of people prescribed statins don’t reach cholesterol goals after two years, study says:

Half of all people who are prescribed statins for the prevention of heart disease fail to reach target cholesterol levels two years later, according to a new study.

Researchers used data submitted to the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink by 681 family doctors. The study group was made up of 165,411 people who were prescribed a statin between 1990 and 2016 and who had not been treated for heart disease or stroke before the prescription.
They defined an “appropriate” response to statin therapy as a reduction of 40% or more in LDL or “bad” cholesterol, as recommended by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.
