Any public reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross is too much to bear for a group non-believers in Pensacola, FL.

A lawsuit was filed against the city Wednesday to challenge the presence of a 25-foot cross in Bayview Park.

“Federal courts have made abundantly clear that the government’s display of a Christian cross on public land violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment,” said Monica Miller, senior counsel with the Appignani Humanist Legal Center, one of the organizations filing the suit. “This cross sends a clear and exclusionary message of government preference for Christianity over all other religions.”

The local plaintiffs, atheist couple Amanda Kondrat’Yev, Andreiy Kondrat’Yev, and Andre Ryland and David Suhor, who do not believe in any god or gods, say they feel marginalized and excluded by the display.
