It will be the first recreation center the city has built since 1997, when Zelma Watson George Recreation Center opened on Martin Luther King Boulevard. City recreation director Michael Cox said the new center will fill a service gap that has long existed in Collinwood. The inclusion of amenities such as a day-care center where parents can drop off toddlers while they work out and a learning center and computer lab for children make the project special, Cox said.
