Cleveland police are investigating the death of a woman in downtown Cleveland Sunday night.

Officers said they received a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. of a woman screaming in the area of 75 Erieview plaza, near East 12th behind The Galleria at Erieview mall.

When they arrived on scene they found a 53-year-old woman with severe bleeding and suffering from, “multiple defects to her torso,” according to Cleveland Police Sergeant Sammy Morris. Morris would not specify exactly how the woman had been injured. The woman was taken to Metro Health Medical Center where she later died.

The woman was in possession of her purse when she was taken to metro and it is unknown if any items were missing. The woman’s car was also found nearby and towed from the area.

The woman’s name is not being released at this time.

Police said they are investigating this case as a homicide and are in the process of checking several surveillance cameras in the area.
