On Thursday afternoon, workers at several businesses near East 9th and Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland were busy fixing sidewalks and sprucing up to prepare for Hollywood coming to town.
At the same time, the sights and sounds of movie sets being built already filled the air as production crews got several storefronts ready for filming next week along East 9th Street.
But what does filming “The Avengers” on real Cleveland streets mean for traffic? Several road closings for the next month.
Beginning August 8, one of the busiest streets in downtown Cleveland, East 9th, between Euclid Avenue and Prospect Avenue, will close for movie production until Friday, September 2. That same stretch of road will close this Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon for production prep work.
Then on August 8, extra traffic cops will be out directing drivers to an alternate route. It’s recommended motorists use East 18th and Superior Avenue as ways around the East 9th closure. Hollywood explosions are planned all along East 9th Street. The movie stars begin filming August 15, which is when Euclid Avenue between East 6th and East 12th closes for nine days until August 24.
