What would be your answer if asked, “Do you have a heart for God?” A heart for God is one that is concerned only with pleasing Him. It describes a person who puts God’s Word and will above all else. Whatever is most important to you will show in all you do. What drives and motivates you from day to day? Is it the accumulation of material wealth or are you truly seeking to become what God has purposed you to be?

The heart of a man is his spirit. It is the place where your life force exists. Just like the life of an oak tree is housed in its roots, your spirit, or heart, houses your life and determines what comes out of you (Proverbs 4:23).

Matthew 6:21 declares, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Locate what you treasure and you will discover what has become the focus of your life. If your house, car and monetary wealth are your treasures, then you’ve located what is most important to you. If God is your treasure; if He is your prime focus and desire, then your heart is with Him. When you keep Him first in your life, everything else will follow (Matthew 6:33).

What I want you to understand is, it doesn’t matter how religious you act; what is in your heart will be revealed through every word you speak and action you take. People’s lives are touched when you demonstrate God’s love and obey His Word. Shouts of “Hallelujah” don’t mean a thing if you are harboring unforgiveness and strife. God doesn’t judge a man by what is on the outside; He looks at the inner man.
