CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Around 12-hundred Case Western Reserve students and alumni attended Thursday’s job fair at the Vale Athletic Center. That is more people than the school expected.

133 organizations were represented. Recruiters met with interested candidates.

Even the best and the brightest need a helping hand in this economy. 19 Action News spoke to several Case Ph.D. students who were looking forward to the job fair.

“I’ve had many friends who got jobs out of last years career fair.”

In Cleveland, thousands of people applied for 500 casino jobs. Adam Barna survived the first round of interviews and feels like he won the lotto.

“I got my golden ticket, so I’m excited,” Adam Barna said.

But one woman, who been out of work for two years, got more bad news Wednesday.

“They wanted loud and obnoxious attention getting people, I just don’t think that’s the way to go.”

The good news is other companies are hiring. Macy’s just announced plans to hire 78,000 seasonal workers nationwide and J. C. Penny will hire 35,000.

Cleveland may only get a few hundred of those, but at least it’s something.
