The Cuyahoga County executive office said it is in the process of notifying 33 employees in the fiscal office that they will be laid off.

The latest restructuring reduces the county government’s annual payroll expense by $1.7 million. Before Wednesday’s announcement, county government had already reduced its payroll by 310 employees, saving the county about $17.6 million.

The fiscal office includes what used to be the county auditor’s office and the recorder’s office. The auditor’s office went through several changes following the county corruption investigation involving former Cuyahoga County auditor Frank Russo.

“The goal here is to serve taxpayers more efficiently by streamlining how Cuyahoga County does business,” Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald said in a news release. “This new form of county government has created opportunities to trim costs, and we are pursuing them.”

In May, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald laid off 21 people after the county examined each department. During another round of restructuring in March, 25 were laid off to reduce government costs.
