The Greater Cleveland Aquarium will open to the public on Jan. 21.

It will be the first of the new major downtown construction projects to open.

“We’re so excited to announce our opening date….we get to be the first thing on the block,” said General Manager Tami Brown.

Brown came over from a job at Positively Cleveland to take charge of this project.

The aquarium is being built in the Old Powerhouse in the Flats on the West Bank. That’s been both a challenge and an opportunity to customize the facility.

A scheduled October opening date was delayed in order to redesign and improve the exhibit of fish native to Ohio.

It’s said to be the only free-standing aquarium in a four-and-a-half-hour drive. They are hoping for 400,000 to 500,000 annual visitors.

Adult admission is $21.95. Children’s tickets are $15.95. Yearly passes are $50, which include perks plus a Jan.19-20 select preview.
