Witnesses for the prosecution took the stand today in the trial of accused serial killer Anthony Sowell, and three of the witnesses were family members of the defendant.

Fox 8 News’ Kevin Freeman reports that Sowell’s half-brother, Thomas Sowell, testified that he rarely saw his half-brother. He went on to say that his wife had never met Anthony despite the fact the couple had been together for many years.

Sowell’s step-grandmother, 88-year-old Virginia Oliver, later took the witness stand an testified that relatives would often tell her how terrible the smell was from inside Anthony Sowell’s house on Imperial Avenue. The bodies of 11 women were found on the Imperial Avenue property in the Fall of 2009.

According to Freeman, Oliver testified that Sowell always helped out around his stepmother’s house. She told the jury that he cut the grass, took out the trash and was a very good cook. Freeman says Sowell appeared to be trying to hold back emotion while Oliver testified against him.

Allan Sowell, Anthony’s oldest brother also provided testimony in court on Tuesday.
