An 11-year-old Akron girl died Wednesday night after being struck by a stray bullet during an apartment complex shootout.
Carmella Holley was hit by a stray bullet while holding candy inside an apartment Wednesday afternoon.
The incident began as a fight between two men in the Hillwood Apartments parking lot on Keys Place in Akron, police said. It ended in a shootout with Carmella getting hit by the bullet.
Witnesses reported hearing five gun shots just before 4:30 p.m. and that the sound of gunfire is all too familiar on the east side of town.
According to Carmella’s family, she was inside the second floor apartment sitting on the arm of a chair eating candy when the bullet came through the wall and struck her in the back.
