Hundreds of people will be coming to Cleveland from as many as 14 countries next week for a marketing conference that is expected to put the city on the map.

The event, called “Content Marketing World,” is expected to the largest conference of its kind. It runs from Sept. 6-8 at various venues in downtown Cleveland, including the Renaissance Hotel, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Pickwick & Frolic. Organizers said a bonus for hosting the event in Cleveland is that it’s economical — hotel rates and other half-off deals make it easy for people to come to the city on a tight budget.

Content marketing is the strategy of publishing stories and information in an effort to gain an audience to which a company or organization can sell a product or service.

The conference, which is in its first year, is designed to teach attendees about the content marketing successes and failures of brands around the world.

Cleveland was chosen as the location for the event because so many content marketing companies are based in Northeast Ohio, including Junta42, Content Marketing Institute, Optiem, PR 20/20 and Med City Media.

“I selected Cleveland because Cleveland represents a power shift,” said Joe Pulizzi who lives in Cleveland and founded the Content Marketing Institute. “This shift is mirrored in Cleveland’s history. Cleveland made a name for itself in trade publishing in the 1880s, and, as a result the city grew. Thousands of publishing brands call CTOWN home, including major operations for Penton Media, Advanstar, GIE Media, Questex, Great Lakes, Smart Business and many, many more.”
