Cleveland is number two on a list of big city comparisons. And this list is one the city is happy to be on.

Careerbuilder.com and Apartments.com have teamed to list greater Cleveland behind only Hartford-New Haven, Connecticut, as the second best place for recent college graduates.

The rankings are based on concentration of 20-24 year old adults, inventory of entry level jobs and average cost of a one bedroom apartment.

Yolanda Burt, director of career services at Cleveland State University, said she felt the listing was accurate.

“Forty seven percent of our graduates do report that they are working in their field of study,” said Burt. “The average [starting] salary is $47,330.”

Katrina Akinkuoye, a junior Health Science major, hoped to be in that 47 percent success rate. She was meeting with a career services advisor, fine tuning her resume, in an effort to get an internship in the health care industry.

Akinkuoye agreed the $695 average apartment rent shown in the Careerbuilder.com list would be a strong reason for her to remain in the Cleveland area after graduation.
