Lately, I have been burning the candle at both ends. Trying to do everything at once, despite a lack of time, might seem like a balancing act that you can achieve, yet it can also be at the expense of your health and overall happiness. In a fit of wanderlust, I have tried to be everywhere and be a superwoman, when in reality, relaxation and simple pleasures may have done the trick. Sometimes, it takes family or friends to know what you need to fill a void in your life. I know that if I had taken better care of myself and resisted the temptation to be constantly on the move, I would not be feeling under the weather right now and exhausted with the state of my life. How do you keep yourself in check, however, when you don’t see the problems arising in the first place?

One way to be continuously involved in your physical and mental state is to not push yourself too hard. If you don’t feel up to going out somewhere, don’t overextend your body! I can think of a few nights in the last few weeks where I have not felt up to seeing friends or leaving the house, yet I told myself that I would regret it if I didn’t go out. However, now that I think about it in a more mature sense, I would gladly trade a night out on the town for a healthy, well-rested body. When deciding on what to do with your day, always pick your physical well-being over trying to bite off more than you can chew. You will thank yourself for being responsible when you don’t get sick!

Another way to keep yourself well, mentally and physically, is to let yourself be still with your breathing once a day. Clear your thoughts and stop worrying for a few minutes. Stress can be debilitating if left unchecked and can eventually make you sick if you’re not careful! Set aside time to still your overactive imagination and think about a time in your life when you felt most worry-free. Perhaps channeling a less trying time might will you to alter your current lifestyle and be more responsible with your health!
