Violence is on the rise across Ohio. It is a problem that is not being taken lightly in Cleveland, so The Begun Center at Case Western University and the Partnership for a Safer Cleveland is establishing an academic community partnership named for the honorable Louis B Stokes.

The partnership will be called the Louis B. Stokes Consortium on Youth Violence Prevention. A youth violence prevention seminar was hosted by the partnership on Friday to begin to tackle this community problem immediately.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has awarded a very competitive and locally matched $200,000 grant to the partnership to prove the effectiveness of police as first social responders. Primarily the study will focus on violence in public housing and violence among youth.
