Droves of people assembled to see “The Avengers” this weekend, but one man’s time in the theater landed him in trouble with police.

The Eastlake man, 35, is accused of motion picture piracy for allegedly recording a portion of “The Avengers” on his cell phone during a Friday afternoon showing at Regal Willoughby Commons 16 on Euclid Avenue.

Willoughby Police say management spotted him holding what appeared to be a recording device, which was emitting a distinct light as the film was in progress.

When officers entered the theater, they reportedly found him with a smartphone resting on his right thigh.

After he was escorted from the theater and into the lobby, police say the man claimed he was “testing” his new phone and recorded the trailers for upcoming movies.

He was arrested and taken to the Willoughby Police Department where police say he signed a consent to a search of his cell phone.
