They had a worldwide fan base and were millionaires before they could even drive, yet former “Sister, Sister” stars Tia and Tamera Mowry reveal they were bullied in high school.
In an interview with Showbiz Tonight, twin sisters Tia Mowry Hardict and Tamera Mowry-Housley opened up about their experiences of growing up as successful child actors and the bullying that went hand in hand with fame.
“High school kids could be mean,” Tamera said. “Our experience as actors in high school wasn’t really the best experience. I think a lot of the times kids automatically assumed that maybe you think that you’re better than they are because you’re on TV.”
Tia recounted an instance that finally made her snap: “I will never forget [it] a kid screamed down the hall, ‘Your show sucks!!’… I turned around and I said ‘Well, the checks don’t.’”
The twins rose to fame in the 1990s on their hit show, “Sister, Sister,” which aired for one season on ABC in 1994 before switching to the WB network (now the CW) from 1995 to 1999.
The sisters will appear on the second season of their reality show “Tia and Tamera,” which premieres on the Style Network on June 11.
