Garden lovers were in their element Sunday during GardenWalk Cleveland 2012. The 2nd annual garden event featured self-guided tours of homemade gardens, urban farms, vineyards and orchards in 10 Cleveland neighborhoods.

Visitors, with map in hand, traveled on foot, bike and vehicle from one garden stop to the next. Homeowners at many of the garden locations were on hand to greet visitors and provide refreshments.

The following ten neighborhoods, including six new ones, took part: Brooklyn Centre, Detroit-Shoreway, Glenville, Hough, Lee-Harvard-Miles, Ohio City, Old Brooklyn, Slavic Village, St. Clair-Superior and Tremont.

The recent drought conditions, however, made it tough on homeowners this year.

“Luckily everybody is in the same boat. Everybody is suffering the same drought,” said GardenWalk co-founder Jan Kious. “It certainly has been challenging for people to keep flowers going.”

Each of the ten neighborhoods had headquarters where visitors could park their car or bike, get water and pick up garden tour maps
