Grand Rapids pastor and gospel music artist Marvin Sapp has just finished signing 500 copies of his new book.

“We’re sending them out by the end of the week,” said Sapp from his office at Lighthouse Full Life Center Church on Burton St. SE.

The book is “Marvin’s Motivational Moments,” a 100-page collection of thoughts culled from various tweets on finding and maintaining good relationships.

“Initially, I started doing this because I couldn’t sleep,” said Sapp, 45, of the months after losing his wife, MaLinda, to cancer in 2010.

“It was therapeutic for me to be able to post things that we had talked about in relationships and wanted to do in our church to build strong marriages,” he said.

The self-published book includes nearly a hundred such entries, with elaborations on each.

“It’s like a 90-day journey for people who may have lost their way in terms of love and relationships or life in general,” said Sapp of his desire to include information that would challenge people to be better individuals.

When heasked his fans (134,000-plus Twitter followers and more than 500,000 Facebook likes) if they might be interested in a collection of these sayings, the response led him to produce a book.

Currently it’s available for $15 on his website, marvinsapp.com. He said he plans to pursue other outlets, including in e-book format.

“Marvin’s Motivational Moments” is not the book that he has been working on for Destiny Images Publishers in an agreement signed earlier this year.

That one is titled “I Win” – also the name of his DVD-CD project that released in April. It will tell a bit more of his story and how he persevered through challenging situations in his life. But he also will offer examples of how to establish a positive life legacy.

“It’s still going through the editing process, and should be out by the end of the year,” Sapp said.

Meanwhile, there is now a video promo for a possible reality show involving Sapp and his three teenage children. It’s called “Marvin Sapp: Single Dad,” produced by Open River Pictures.
