The Clevleand Metropolitan School District is facing a critical start to the school year.
The district is grappling with layoffs, shorter school days and a mega-levy on the ballot in November.
By all accounts, the first day went pretty smoothly.
In fact, CEO Eric Gordon gave opening day an A minus or B plus.
Some good news is that the district cut walking distance for kids in half. For grades k to 8 they won’t have to walk more than one mile each way to school.
For high school, they used to have to walk 6 miles round trip and now it’s 3 miles round trip.
