Just one day after Robin Roberts’ bone marrow transplant, People reports the Good Morning America host is “energized” and “ready to go home.”
Roberts underwent a five-minute bone marrow transplant, with stem cells donated from her sister Sally-Ann, on Thursday. In an interview with Good Morning America, oncologist Dr. Gail Roboz revealed that Roberts sent her an email saying she “wanted to go home.”
Although Dr. Robez described the 51-year-old as a “powerhouse,” she said Roberts is now being monitored for signs of recovery and that rebuilding can take weeks to months.
“We have to roll with the punches over the next few days because, don’t forget, her systems are down and Sally-Ann’s aren’t up yet so we’re in that in-between zone of watching very carefully,” Roboz said. “We are wanting every day to be a good day, but we are ready for some bumps in the road.”
Roberts released a video on Thursday, where she spoke encouraging words and thanked her fans for their support. “This journey is as much about the mind as it is the body,” she said. “You’ve got to change the way you think in order to change the way you feel.”
“Let me just say this lastly,” she concluded. “I feel the love and I thank you for it. Thank you.”
