1. President at Cleveland State

President Barack Obama will speak at Cleveland State University just two days the first presidential debate. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the event at Krenzler Field.

2. Obama event means road closures

For motorists, be prepared for traffic delays on the interstates as the President’s motorcade goes from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to CSU. There will be road closures in the area of East 18th Street, Chester Avenue, Payne Avenue and East 24th Street. CSU-area RTA riders will experience reroutes, as well.

3. Denny Ross deliberations

A Summit County jury began deliberating in the retrial of Denny Ross at 3:35 p.m. Monday and went home Thursday without a verdict. Ross is on trial a second time for the 1999 murder of Hannah Hill after the first ended in a mistrial.

4. Death penalty for Mentor murder

In another high-profile murder trial, a Lake County jury recommended the death penalty for the man convicted of killing Mentor resident, Annie McSween. Joseph Thomas was found guilty of aggravated murder and other charges last week. The judge still has to decide whether to accept the jury’s decision.

5. Rare meningitis cases

Clinics, medical centers around the U.S. rush to contact perhaps thousands of patients who may have received tainted injections for back pain. More than 30 people in six states have been sickened by the fungus, which has been fatal for some. The Ohio Department of Health said no cases have been reported here.
