Rainy weather could not keep thousands of people away from West 25 Street in downtown Cleveland. The street was shut down for a parade and festival. Delicacies from the Ohio City Market district filled the cool air.

For 100 years the West Side Marke t has been serving the people of Cleveland. It’s time to celebrate.

“All of the things we see happening in the market district have a lot to do with the West Side Market being here” said Virginia Houston, Director of Marketing and Development, Ohio City Inc.

Numerous stores and restaurants have opened their doors near the corner of Lorain Rd. and West 25 Street. It’s no coincidence that the continued success of the West Side Market is in the center of it all.

“I love the atmosphere and the people coming together” said Irene Jennings of Cleveland

Irene believes the market will survive well beyond it’s current 100 years.

The Bier Markt , Flying Fig and Penzeys Spices have found success in the Ohio City Market district.

“The West Side Market is unique to Cleveland. There are other cities that have something similar, but this started 100 years ago. It will last another 100 years” said Jim Davidson of Parma.

The markets centennial festivities will wrap up on Saturday, November 3. A dozen or more local and nationally renowned chefs will be participating.

The Great Lakes Brewing Compan y will be releasing a special centennial brew in the near future.
