Late Tuesday, the Council of the Great City Schools released that Cleveland Municipal School District CEO Eric Gordon is a finalist for an urban education leadership award.

All 10 finalists will be recognized in Indianapolis on October 18 at the Council’s 56th Annual Fall Conference.

All the urban educators will share practices and, ultimately, honor the winner of the 2012 Richard R. Green Award.

This award is given annually to the top city school leader in the nation.

The news was released at the beginning of Tuesday’s Cleveland School Board work session.

“It’s wonderful to see Eric Gordon’s name among the best of the big-city superintendents, especially in his first year as our CEO,” said Board chair Denise Link. “Our Academic Transformation and our passage of the Cleveland Plan this year brought national attention to our reforms, but we are thrilled to see our CEO getting the attention he deserves for leading this work.”

The Cleveland Municipal School District Communications Officer Roseann Canfora passed along the following information on the Richard R. Green Award.
