Superstorm Sandy is not only prohibiting New Yorkers from returning to work, but she’s also prohibiting Alicia Keys’ charity ball.

Due to the extreme devastation of Hurricane Sandy, Alicia Keys made the executive decision to postpone her annual Keep A Child Alive charity Black Ball.

The philanthropic event was supposed to take place this Thursday at Hammerstein Ballroom, but will now be rescheduled to a later date. Actress Whoopi Goldberg was scheduled to emcee this year’s proceedings, honoring the work of Oprah Winfrey and Angelique Kidjo. Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Alabama Shakes, and Carole King were all to perform.

The yearly event raises funds for children and family suffering from HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. Since its inception in 2004, the Black Ball has raised $13.8 million.

Along with co-founder Alicia Keys, musician Jay Sean and Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi serve as ambassadors for the charity.
