It caused a commotion when Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes appeared on the November 2012 cover of EBONY.

But Empowering Everyday Women editors are more concerned with the awesomeChristian names on “The Ebony 100” Power List.

Very often, even when people of faith are doing significant things, they are absent from mainstream media mentions. But now, there seems to be more of a shift toward the faith-based community, particularly in the African American media.

Viacom-owned cable network, BET’s primetime lineup is more aggressively targeting viewers of faith for its 2013 season, with the addition of Bishop T.D. Jakes’ talk show and Detroit’s royal family, the Sheards’ new reality show.

Perhaps, as more Christians are visible on larger platforms, they will be talked about and honored on more lists like Ebony’s Power 100 that welcomed quite a few Christian names.

Though not an exhaustive list, here are some of the individuals honored by the magazine:

  • Robin Roberts: Good Morning America co-anchor
  • Cynthia Hale: Pastor and Founder of Ray of Hope Christian Church
  • Tyler Perry: Director, Writer, Producer, Actor
  • Gabrielle Douglas: Olympic Gold champion
  • Rev. Fred Luter Jr.: President, Southern Baptist Convention
  • Bishop T.D. Jakes: Senior Pastor, The Potter’s House
  • Tavis Smiley: Broadcaster, author, activist
  • Mary Mary: Gospel artists, reality stars

The complete list is available in the November 2012 issue of Ebony Magazine on newsstands now.
