Thanksgiving is over. We’re now headed toward Christmas and some empowered Christian women, like national recording artist Kierra Sheard, are already making their New Year’s declarations.

The soon-to-be BET reality TV star is vowing, “I will be a better me” in 2013.

In a Nov. 24 social cam video message to her supporters titled “Just Thinking,” Sheard, who made Essence Magazine’s 2012 “Young, Black, and Amazing” power list, got introspective about her future.

According to her, the pensive moment that inspired the video came about while watching a “hilarious” episode of the Simpsons, where Homer uttered a prayer thanking God for being good to him. While Sheard says she wasn’t trying to be “deep,” the funny cartoon sparked more serious reflection in her.

EEW Magazine editors have noted a few inspiring and wise revelations the “Bold Right Life” youth organization founder has made. One of them is “making a decision to let go of friendships, people, things” that don’t fit her life anymore, including clothing.

“I’m holding onto clothes that I can’t fit,” she confesses. “I keep saying I’m going to lose weight. I want to lose the weight, but since I can’t fit the clothes, it’s okay to kinda let some of this stuff go, so that you can make room for something new.”
