Tedashii Anderson, known simply as Tedashii, is an original member of the hip-hop group “116 Clique” and has released three solo albums on Reach Records, including his latest “Blacklight.” We talked to Tedashii about writing songs, sharing the gospel and his concert in Houston this past  Saturday.

Q: What was it like being on the ground floor when Reach Records started?

A: When I met these guys there was no record label. Trip Lee was still in high school and LeCrae and I were in the same college group. At the beginning it was just a group of guys being unashamed of the gospel and spreading the message. We started pursuing the music as opportunities arose.

Q: How much of your new album “Blacklight” came from personal experience?

A: I would say 98 percent of the content of my album came from my life. I think people recognize authenticity and our albums have always been transparent and educational, but also personal. It’s not about fitting a specific genre of music, it’s about living the lifestyle.

Q: Where did the song “Riot” come from?

A: “Riot” was about being in college as a Christian and watching everyone else hitting clubs and parties and being with different women all the time, all the while you are in your room just hoping not to mess up.
