As the investigation into the Cleveland police chase and officer involved shooting continues, family members of one of the suspects killed, speaks out about their loss.
Family members of Malissa Williams held a news conference Wednesday to talk about their frustrations as they try to find answers to what happened.
A funeral is set for 9:30 Saturday morning at the Integrated Faith Assembly. Williams’ mother, Martha, is still trying to figure out what took place during the November 29 chase.
Police say they believe someone from the car Williams was riding in fired a shot at officers at the Justice Center in Cleveland. Officers chased the car for 25 minutes. The chase ended in East Cleveland where 13 officers fired 137 shots in the car, killing Williams and Timothy Russell.
Family members say the East Cleveland mayor called to offer his condolences but they haven’t heard any updates on the case.
“Sad, very sad,” said Martha Williams, Malissa’s mother. “Nothing and no money in the world can bring my daughter back.”
The family says Malissa suffered from mental health issues.
Meanwhile, state and local investigators are expected to finish speaking with all the officers involved in the chase by Thursday afternoon. The investigation could take a year to complete.
Police Union officials have stressed that they believe the officers’ actions were justified.
