Cleveland Indian’s relief pitcher Chris Perez and his wife Melanie plead not guilty Monday to misdemeanor drug charges.

The pleas were faxed to the Rocky River Municipal Court by their attorney.

Perez and his wife came face to face with agents with the Westshore Enforcement Bureau,  U.S. Postal Inspectors and Rocky River Police last Tuesday at their home in Rocky River.

That was when an undercover agent dropped off two priority mail packages to Chris Perez’s home. Agents say the delivery contained just over 5.7 ounces of marijuana.

Investigators say Perez admitted to agents that he had marijuana in his house and led them right to it.

The mail came from California and was addressed to Perez’s dog Brody with a last name of Baum which is his wife’s maiden name.
