If you decide you want to do some grilling yourself this Independence Day holiday, you’ll want to take a look at some grilling tips, especially if it has been a while since you last used your grill.

Some safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association include:

  • The grill must be away from you home, including deck railing and watch for low branches. And don’t grill in your garage.
  • Remove grease and fat buildup on the grill and in the trays underneath.
  • If you use a propane grill, check the gas tank hose for leaks. And if that flame goes out. Turn the grill and gas off and wait 15 minutes before you re-light it.
  • If you use a charcoal grill use only charcoal chimney starters of charcoal starter fluid to start the coals. When you’re all done, let those coals cool off before you throw them away.
